Fedoskino – “Old Moscow” Lacquer Box

A Fedoskino paper mache lacquer box.

The scene depicts old Moscow in winter.  The horse drown carriages travel the streets while the Cathedral of Christ the Savior can be seen at the back.  The artist plays with us by making us guess wherever the day is just beginning or coming to the end.   The street lights are lit but its not quite night or day.
