Girl Watering Flowers - Hand Carved

Smilling peasant girl in a summer dress watering flowers. 

This figurine was skilfully hand carved in ancient settlement of Bogorodsk situated about 40 km from Moscow.  This small town was settled around 500 years ago and lies in the heart of a grand Russian forest.  Wooden toy soldiers made here over 300 years ago were played with by Peter the Great.  The master carver who made this figurine would have gained their skills from generations of master wood carvers as the skill is passed down the family tree.   What makes this item even more special is that it was then hand painted by an artist in the town of Sergiev Posad (Birth place of the Russian Nesting doll) 63km from Moscow.  Sergiev Posad or Zagordk as it was known during the Soviet time is considered to be one of the greatest cultural centers of Russia.
